episode 1. Design
In the first episode, we'll learn about how nuclear icebreakers are designed. What are the distinctive features of their design? What challenges do designers face given the extreme operating conditions of the vessels? What will the "new generation" nuclear-powered vessels look like, and how do people become nuclear icebreaker designers?
episode 2. Assembling the case
In the second episode, we'll head to the slipways where icebreakers first take shape. How are hundreds of steel sections assembled into a hull capable of withstanding the pressure of perennial ice? What technologies are used to work with unique alloys? How are dozens of workshops coordinated, and why does precision at this stage determine the fate of the entire vessel?
episode 3. Equipment installation
In the third episode, we'll learn how key systems are installed on an icebreaker—from a nuclear power plant to modern navigation systems. How is a steel frame transformed into a high-tech vessel? What challenges do engineers and installers face at this stage? What safety and quality control measures are necessary given the specifics of equipment operation?
episode 4. Strength Tests
In the fourth episode, we'll take you on a journey through the shipyard and sea trials. We'll show you how the reactor, hull strength, maneuverability, and stability of the vessel are tested. Experts will explain the scenarios the test crews simulate and why this stage is crucial for confirming the icebreaker's readiness for Arctic operations.
